HISTORY OF SLOAN'S RACING
IN 1958 AT THE AGE OF 14, I STARTED GOING TO THE
DRAG RACES WITH BYRON DUNGEY. HE HAD A FRONT ENGINE DRAGSTER. I HAVE BEEN HOOKED ON DRAG RACING EVER SINCE.
WHEN I WAS 17 YEARS OLD, I WAS RACING A 1955 MERCURY.
IN 1964 I BUILT A 1954 FORD WITH A 309 Y BLOCK. A YEAR LATER REPLACED THE OLD Y BLOCK WITH A 427 FORD. THEN IN 1966 I TEAMED
UP WITH JIM BRADFORD, WE HAD A A/ALTERED (‘23T) WITH A 345 OLDS WITH 6 CHEVY 2 BARRELLS ON A HOMEMADE LOG MANIFOLD.
WE THEN REPLACED THE OLDS WITH AN INJECTED 503 HEMI. WE WERE PARTNERS FOR 13 YEARS, THEN WE SPLIT.
AFTER LAYING OUT OF RACING FOR 2 YEARS, I BUILT
A 1932 BATAM ALTERED AND WENT BRACKET RACING. THE ALTERED HAD 390 FE FORD WITH A C6 TRANSMISSION. RAN THE C6 FOR 1 YEAR, THEN
I BUILT AND ADAPTER AND PUT A POWERGLIDE IN THE CAR. THAT WAS THE START OF SLOAN’S RACING TRANSMISSIONS. BRADFORD AND
I WERE BUILDING 727 TORQEFLITES AND CLUTCH FLITES WHEN WE WERE A TEAM. WE ALSO WORKED ON HILBORN INJECTORS.
NOW TODAY WE ARE RACING REAR ENGINE DRAGSTERS WITH
BB CHEVY’S WITH STACK INJECTORS, USING ALCOHOL PLUS GASOLINE AND NITROUS COMBINATION FOR THE LAST 12 YEARS
